Over the last couple of months I have been experiencing a problem with my windows 200X servers, ( well some of them anyway), not holding time sync with the NTP which was DC. Tried all the Ms solutions they had, w32tm this, net stop that. No matter what I did on the domain, the time would immediately reset 6 minutes ahead, making any time reliant service have problems. After checking the event log, spotted that there was a VM IC Time service provider. Hazarding a guess VM was , surprise, Virtual Machine, looked atht e hosts and lo and behold, there was my 6 minute time difference, staring at me from the bottom right of the taskbar. Even though the AD was outside of the VM host, and all the servers were told to get their time corrections from this, the VM Host overrode this and provided the time service from itself. SO, pointed the host to the AD, resynced, and Presto!, all is well in the land of the VM's below the host.

Coouldn't find any documents on it , so made this up, in case anyone else has the same problem.

Hope that helps someone and saves them the time chasing a ghost, or is that a VHD?

TTFN

win defrag malware

Fellow earthicans,

I have spent the last two days trying to fix a problem for a friend on his Pc, called WIN Defrag. If there was a message that the mbr file is damaged or not a supported type select yes to repair. type exit and when check that the drive has returned to the Disk management screen.

( these instructions are provided, "as is", and I would suggest that you back up any important information before doing any remedial work on any pc. Here's a simple question not asked yet ? "show me the money?" Sounds funny, but very serious. Money doesn't just disappear, as the taxpayer knows. When money is gone from the banks, no one has to show where it has gone. But the money to fix the problem, is very visable.
Government my arse, jobs for the boys more like. Ireland as an economy is screwed. All thanks to business greed, backed, and banked, by government . No pensions, no health system, no jobs, no future. We have been down this road before , and it seems to be every 20 odd years. At what time does a country learn that all this shite doesn't work. All we hear is government double speak, and twisty talk. " in the interim, at the end of the day, to the best of our ability, we will meter the water, tax the gas, vat the food, levy your house". the only winners with a job all the time, are the politicans, their consultants, the lawyers. A tribunal a year, makes more money for the law society. National interest is for the nation, not that shower of blowhards, fair play to the cement mixer man. that fat lazy "leader".

Bin the goverment, but that's too late. They have their pensions, we havent. Stick the fiscal plan up its own arse. Anglo, 23 years ago, Alan Dukes, make him Finance minister.

who has the money? Where is the money? Money does not just "disappear". It's somewhere so where. Brian Cowen, leave now, we do not want you Do a Bertie real quick. And take your cronies with you.

I rest my case

3 strikes and your out - Eircom fold like a piece of t paper

firstly, without prejudice,

Laugh, I nearly died!
Eircom, "Ireland premier" Broadband provider, for lack of a better moniker, has gone down the road of, comply or die. Firstly, i would like to add that is do not condone the downloading of copyright material in any way, it's akin to the next door neighbour borrowing ur lawnmower, and dropping it back, blunt and out of petrol. It is that annoying, you have your lawnmower back, but WTF!
Anyway, I digress. Some "high court judge", decided that the IP address of a broadband user is not Private Property. Ok, so if I go out and buy a computer, which has a unique MAC address, no one else in the world owns, this is my property, right? Yes , it is. So, if I go out and buy broadband from Eircom, and demand a static IP address and purchase it, this is also my private property. Therefore the judges argument is flawed, I "own", or at least, lease for the duration, that IP address. Also, I "lease" the IP address from the pool of addresses obtained by Eircom. As in any "property" lease, it landlord, "eircom", must give the user, "tenant" notice of inspection. the 3 strikes and out rule does not give this "term of inspection, nor does it disclose the reason", in advance.( and who would download on Eircom anyway, it's NGB, is nothing more than sugar coated hype, I know may that do not benefit from this "new" tech, but pay for those that do, so thanks Eircom, NOT!)

But again, I digress, just change to another ISP. Might give "Eircom" a pair of dry trousers in which to stand up in. Then again, people, buy the music / DVD , its cheaper, better quality and it's not stealing. How would you like it if someone ask you for your service, and didn't pay. Yeah, yeah, "but they are so big, who'd notice?" . well, like sand in a sandblaster, the sand wins, little bits bring down the strong. and then where would get ur downloads from. "I'm just downloading for myself, what harm" x 1,000,000,000 = a freaking lot!

"So endeth the lesson" Sean Connery - The Untouchables

EIRCOM NGB a.k.a. I got it , well i haven't. up to 8 MB download, which equates on my a+ line to 3 MB, what I started with, so no improvement. As for congestion, it's appears to be slower and stutters like a guy learning to walk on crutches !

Come on Eircom, do the customer a favour, stop telling us we are getting a new service , all bells and whistles, use the hyper advertising money and put it into the service. I'd rather have the whole cake rather than a meagre slice.

Looks like I'm going to have to fight with them again for another 6-9 months to see what they can "do" for me. Paying almost 70 euros a month for line rental, ( I think it may be two tin cans and a piece of string!), telephone calls, ( which I don't make) and Broadband, more like Skinnyband. I'd have better luck posting my search requests to Google via snail mail, response time would at least be consistent and guaranteed to be delivered 97% on time.

So, once again, Eircom invites us to the big party, charges us the glitzy gala price but the musics off the radio, the beers warm and the food is microwaved. Boy, these guys spin better than 90's street rap dancers.
Or that the whole country, (Ireland that is), is now "emerging" from this recession with the rich untouched, as usual, and the poor, ( that includes the poor sod that works, and is taxed, then bin charged, vat'ed to death, ) left to pay the bill ! Ok, bear with me on this one, understand might be a rant, but has meaning.

The building "boom" was blamed for most of our woes, but who has all the money , from the loans, that are now outstanding?

Is it our eastern European friends, who came here to work, for feck all wages, to create these follies ? No ! WHY! well, IF all this money was going to them, it would either be in our economy, holding it up, or in the European economy, holding it up, and both are knackered, so no not there.

Do the banks have it, maybe, but they had to be bailed out, with taxpayers money.

Does average Joe Bloggs have it, no, because he has no savings, see loans above, or if he has savings, the bank has it, so why do they need loans, if the money is there ? If we spent it on "other" things, then if they are European, then Europe has it and someone is OK, and so far, no one is. So as Tom Cruise said in Jerry Maguire, " show me the money!". Where is it, or more to the point, who has it ? Who's sitting on the invisible pile ?

If I had any , I'd put my money on the uber rich. I have a belief, rich people are rich for two reasons, 1 someone left them a pile of cash, or 2 they wouldn't spend Christmas! Option 1 tends to spend it all and leave nothing as they would have had parents from option 2, and want a good time. There is a third option, but The Minister for Finance doesn't believe that anyone would, "invest / store their homemade money, ABROAD!" God forbid that thought !

The world is in "global Meltdown", both financially, and from Greenhouse gases, wonder which one wins ! And Strangely enough, it's the rich that contribute more to global warming, per head ratio, to this, with helicopters, jet travel, factories poorly maintained, etc. Joe Poorbastrd, can't afford to drive, he cycles to work, his kids take the bus to school, he recycles because he cares and it saves on the bin tag, he buys cheaper, grows his own veg, where possible, etc. The richer they get, the less they care.

Bottom line : It doesn't matter who is in Government, it's who they are and what they really believe in, or rather who they believe in.

The Irish budget is coming soon to a pay packet near you. It will have more twists, than M. Night Shaleyman, more stabs in the back than Caesar, and best of all, more underhandedness than a game of poker at the annual world championship of professional cheaters !

At this point I'll shut up and leave you to your own conclusions.

And as Vincent Price may have said after one of his presentations, "I hope you can sleep well, mu hahaha !"

EIRCOM DNS or NOT!

Long time not post, but this one is a good one so listen up!

The great ISP EIRCOM, ( all hail , !) has done it again. Last weekend they FUBAR'ed big time and caused untold callouts for techies like me. No info, no admission that their DNS servers were unwell, just grin and bear it.

Wel, tonight, yes kids, it happened AGAIN! Primary DNS up , Secondary DNS NOT! result : Primary choking like a chicken, "third, ( or is that turd!) time lucky for resolution.

I had 20 callouts tonight, based on their "service. So my solution, http://www.opendns.com, thank you! Worked a treat. I recommend that all your Eircom ISP users, switch over. I had one user have their router changed 3 times in a month, as well as that, they had wireless, think of the cost, inconvenience and hassle for them. All because EIRCOM would not put their hand up. Hmm, perhaps it is to do with the new "legislation" here to record 2 years of traffic from all users. Smacks of BB . So thank you Irish government, the "guillotine" and Brian " the bulldozer" Cowen, his bunch of snivelling cohorts, and an entire Dail that just stood around, shuffled their feet, and let all this crap go on. This country is not in the 21st century, we are being brought back to the days of feudalism. A few powerful ones, running our lives. Next general election, ask 20 of our friends to put u forward as an independent at your local council, and see what happens.

Brian, the man on the handle of Ireland's crapper, just flush us down already, get rid of it. And whip out the bleach, so that it "looks" clean.

I rest my case, or cases, in Dublin Airport, Aer Lingus, get me out of here!

TTFN rant over, and out

Windies 7 RC2 - The Irish review

Huzzah ! Me gets a copy of Windows 7 RC2 before server goes WTF!

Firstly, if this is a teste of things to be, then I am in. Install is a snap, 30 minutes and your up and running, no more select this and faff around that. You can trim it and change it to look and feel like XP , ( much like Vista did). I was able to install on a cranky old IBM Netvista 8XXX series p4 proc with 1 gb memory and its runs pretty good. Couple of patches to install, but picked up all the hardware first time, well done. Now if it can follow this streak with less patching and I seriously doubt that , considering the amount of security flaws in both xp and vista, who knows.

anyway, so far its getting a thumbs up from me, so far! but wait, there's more.

XP Mode : yes there is a virtual XP mode available, to allow us mere mortals to run our legacy Xp stuff , the bad news is that your processor must support virtualisation. Pop over to intel.com to get the tester, and you will probably find that 80% of your kit doesn't "cut the mustard". Major downer, but sure isn't that what developers are for, recoding around the OS rather than the other way round!

Anyway, 8 out of 10 for installation, 2 out of 10 for compatibility. seems 7 has a Borg attitude, or is that 7 of 9, (win 3, win 95, win 98, win nt, win 2000, win xp, win vista and win 7 ??) so it should be called windows 8 then, ( still ahead of itself, unless Vista is the runt of the Windows litter, well one of them is !)

Food for thought, C++ u later

Hi Honey I'm Home

Well as luck would have it I have returned from my self imposed exile in work. Well, yes it is. microsoft , thanks again for trying to pull your ass out of the vista fire. Vista, even when it is trying to "ficx" itself, failed miserably. It gets a hardware issue, tries to fix it, and loops forever. a bit of commonsense and the problem would be resolved, but no, ignore the obvious. hook into the BIOS diag and get an answer, no, not Vista, too arrogant. I can do it myself, NOT!

Bill, cop on! take XP and all the hard work in there, cut out the heavyweight fixes, and "the other fixes". Rewrite it, less like MACOS, and go back to slimming it down. t does not need to be uber clever, just functional. We are not all idiots. You will never be able to make idiotproof Os so strike the happy medium. make it work, but faster.

i do hope WIndies 7 does that without a 10 fold size in updates, best of luck

Louis

Another late late entry

Been busy, really busy with work, life and all. but im back. watch this space for developments in the world of moi.

( u won't be disappointed, crushed, but not disappointed )

man u 0 - Barcelona 0

Well, well, what a match! Well, the first half, Man U should have stayed in the dressing room, they contributed that much! The referee must have studied the Liverpool Chelsea guide to refereeing, he was cat! Another "leave them alone" scene. Ronaldo missed a penalty and missed getting a penalty awarded, Rooney was all over the place, playing polyfilla in a team who couldn't pass to save themselves. Barcelona deserved to win that on their first half performance. Well there's always the second leg, that should be fun.

So, that's my football bit over. Now the news . Dublin is fast becoming the O.k corral of Ireland, and Limerick is fading fast into the distance . The Government are deciding on whether to deploy the ERU, ( Emergency response Unit) on the streets of Dublin to counteract the roving gun gangs. Best thing to do there is to let them shoot it out amongst themselves, until only one gang is left, and watch them, job done.

Bertie is on the wind down phase, notice that everything about the tribunal is now a distant memory not a thing in the paper, and soon , as a private citizen, he will be remembered and all the bad things forgotten , now he is no longer a member of the government. He'll probably go on the lecture circuit, and make a fortune from after dinner speeches, go, Bertie GO !

Ireland's Eurovision entry is a guy with his hand stuffed up a turkey's A%$E , ( no , Jamie Olivier not you !). It will probably win, being unique and a bit of quirky entertainment.

Well, must get my beauty sleep, ( ugly has a new name !)

As one guy said to me the other day, ( Thanks to Bill for this), "If you are looking for sympathy, it's in the dictionary, somewhere between Shit and syphilis !"

Nytol

I'm back - Lordy lordy another blog soo soon

Right ok, so there ya go, posts from me soo close together, what a first !! Well, apologies for any typo's in advance, my wireless keyboard gets a lot of MSN usage , not from me , but the rest of the brood, so by the time I get to it, batteries aziz !( got that from True Lies, the bit where the camcorder guy, taping Art Malik's character explaining his demands while burying the nuke in concrete, is plankin' it, because part way thru the tyrant's tyraid, the batteries run out! LOL).

And now this. A "respected" children's hospital removes a child's good kidney in an operation to remove the damaged one, leaving the damaged one in place. Firstly, my heart goes out to the poor child and family who have to live with this. What galls me is the flippant way in which the health minister, and / or her department "explain", " these things happen !!" F.F.S. !, did they lack that most basic of training, "which one is left again!" or "your left or my left". They will immediately blame the radiologist for not putting the L or R tags around the right way.I have witnessed first hand this stupidity and lack of communication. They are under the impression that tired doctors, nurses ( whom I have all the time in the world, and support), can handle the swath of paperwork that is presented for the most menial task. They rely, probably for legal purposes, on a file that takes a small forest to compile !
Head of of the sand, lads. Computerise !!!! Let a proper database system do the checking for you. If an Insurance company can keep track of it's assets, and do it well, so can the health service. No more squabbling about who gets the contract, dragging in a hotel full of consultants, spending a bucket load of taxpayers money, only to be told, yeah, that can be done! Studies are for university students. In the real world, build it from experience, listen to the front line staff and what they need, and like a house, get the foundation in, you can always whack on an extension later, if you need it.
And how many other "botch" jobs go unnoticed, i know of two in a family of four! one has left a child badly scarred for life, the other, in daily constant pain, both for simple procedures, fouled up by hasty procedures, poor hygiene, no existent follow up, filthy aftercare and checkups, and inadequate post operative documentation and instructions. ( bile spewed!)

Again, my hopes and prayers for that poor child, and the parents, who put their trust, and the well being and life of their child, in the hands of a team of professionals. I do hope that that team, and especially the head of it, do not rest easy tonight. There is an old builders saying, "measure twice , cut once !"How true is that ! Had they checked and rechecked , every time, how few problems there would be. And always question, if in doubt, never take what the professional says. After all, they are human. Get second opinions, regardless of what they would lead you to believe. Imagine if "an eye for an eye" was the rule, you'd find that these sort of things would happen very seldomly, 9 and i do not condone that, just using it as an extreme example). In my profession, if i made a mistake like that, not only would the business not service, along with the people employed, but the "ripples" would be felt far and wide, thru the supply chain and my customers, who would leave to go to someone else who did the job right. In business, there is always a second chance, with human life, you get one. It seems that "professional detachment" has reached a new height, that of "ah well, NEXT!" The Hippocratic oath, do they take that in Ireland?

Well, that's enough from me, welcome your opinions on this. Leave one and who knows, perhaps more vitriol shall be spilled here.

Nytol

Thanks for nothing, Bertie

Well, Bertie Ahern, our lustrous "leader", is stepping down to be replaced Brian "The Bean counter" Cowan. ( Hmm, seems all to familiar to Blair for his Minister of Finance) . Looks like that deflected the Mahon "money hoover" for a while at least. Now to the business at hand.

Bertie, thanks for nothing. I mean that most sincerely folks, to quote Hughie Greene. He knew the economy was nosediving well before his exit, sure wouldn't Brian have put him wide of it, forecasting and all that. The countries books are well and truly cooked, and ready to serve, albeit a bit overdone, to the public, awaiting with hungry mouths to feed. But wait, all the good grub was taken ages ago, and now all that's left are the scraps, for the hard working people to squabble over. And when it economy will seem at it's lowest ebb, ( it's not there yet, but it's getting there, transport 21 quote, and it's still not there !), Brian will save us all, hurrah! He will like F$%k!

What's going to happen is this : The government will ask all to tighten their belts, don't look for any wage increases, spend less, save more eat SH1T , possibly die, ( thanks Mary, it's easier now with a (un)health service, less than that offered to a refugee camp. In this country, if you have money, ( and that means also having political friends!), there's no problem, Blackrock clinic, etc. No, wait!. How about being an artist, or a writer or a performer. People who have <= 0 outlay , individuals, supporting the immediates, no tax required, fantastic !

New formula for economic salvation : person+write book/paint/sing songs/ be funny = money minus tax.

And the HSE, they contribute more to global warming than you might think. If you ever saw the amount of paperwork you need to get something from them, you need an Equatorial rain forest just to get a stapler authorised, in triplicate ! This country is running like a very bad business. The "governnment" a.k.a. management, spends all it's time in meaningless meetings, that achieve nothing substantial, except revenue for RTE ( and don't get me started on them, watch rte 2 once in a while, the amount of post production programs, mostly nature docu's re dubbed with the worst drone possible, take up most of it's airtime, and the only "homegrown programmes are nationwide, fair city and the news, with Livin' with lucy, and those two "entertainers", Pat "No one is the boss of me" Kenny, and Ryan " I carbon copied the Letterman show" Turbidy. Between the two of then they couldn't have an original idea, let alone and original show !).

This country needs a break from the vicious cycle of spend, recession, suffer, save, spend. The government should be held totally accountable for it's inaction, before a liquidator is assigned and Ireland PLC becomes Ireland ( under receivership).

I thought of joining a political party, ( what a choice I have !), but after watching their antics , No, I'd rather take my chances. Bertie had his , spent the lot and legged it, a few bob in his hand, a nice pension, and all his buds looking after him. He did a great job, fooling us all, and leaving Bulldog Cowan , who loves all that confrontation stuff, to sort it out. He'll last a year maybe less, and we'll be in general election mode again, making the same mistakes, and we'll be in this shite for the next 5 years.

Tips for the Government :

1) get a healthy population, dead or dying people are not productive, except to solicitors and probate lawyers !
2) Disband the HSe, bring in a private foreign health consultancy firm to fix it, preferably from the US
3) Index link the Government pay scale to the average worker, if he gets a rise, so do you, like real workers , perform well, get paid, perform poorly, get nothing, now that's incentive. Perhaps, performance bonuses, boy, would that work or what
4) Fix the transport system. Half the reason that business is leaving this country is the crap roads. Look at the M50, 3-4 years of restrictions, gridlock, and that won't affect business, think again.
5) Fix the port tunnel, that yoke is as bad as the Jack Lynch yoke in Cork, closed more often than open.

Too bloody tired, and really pissed off, going to bed before I lose the rag altogether.

Nytol

Paddytech and they way it might spam you

Anyone else heard of "Paddytech". One of those days! e-mail blocked due to spam blacklist, no idea why, spent all day getting it fixed, but hurrah , all done. Not without the "over the shoulders", you know, those people that expect you to answer their phone calls, cuz they are MORE important than anyone else, and reading the email marked " E-mail is not working", is not their thing !

Anysway, here's another. I would like to state, as i have before here, NOT a Racist. I an an attitudist (c) , Oxford English Dictionary please note. Here's the thing. I have a "person", unnamed, that specifies things in a general sense, but expects a precise solution. Hmm, like asking for the world, and possibly requested to give back what is not required. Expects everything today from a resource that today is already used up, and perhaps tomorrow , with precision, can be provided, but because they want it NOW, their way, even though having the ability and resources to to it from another point, not theirs, demand it their way ! There's a reversal . The "oppressed" become the dictators ! Step back from the brink, please! "Minorities" do not realise that by their demanding ways, have become a race of dictators.

An example:

A country allows a minority in, due to persecution, etc, and welcomes them, looks after them, and cares for them. They go out of their way to provide for them, sometimes above and beyond what they are doing for their own homeless / oppressed / poverty stricken. Ok, fine so far. Mow for the kicker: these people are from a different social cacsus : in their society, you don't "grab / jump queue / shout louder, etc, you don't survive ! In their new "country of choice", this is not the norm. ( Quote : when in Rome, do as the Romans do ). What happens: culture shock, for both sides ! The "residents" are told to welcome these people in, culture and all, and whatever you do , do not "upset" them by pointing out their differences, this is "racism". The "new residents", perhaps not all, but through need / culture/ education / tradition / experience, see this as an "aha!" moment. If the natives revolt, or say the "wrong thing" / react differently, what happens, they are xenophobes " racists", call the PC / equality " cops.

It is time that people explained, especially the government, that when you arrive in a new culture, that you firstly learn the cultural differences, try to merge with it, and not try by "cultural blackmail", to change the inherent culture, to suit your particular differences. if this happens, the original culture is diluted, and with enough dilution, the original culture is lost. There is no native country that would like its culture diluted to the point that its own singular identity is lost. Then it would become sterile / devoid of life and meaning, might as well not exist.

And before the "told you so " brigade along with the "see another one" gang get up on the "oppressed horse", I am only asking that when new races / culture come to a new country, that they do not expect it to be "just like home", but try to find a happy medium in which both sides can live together, and try to blend rather than demand , a peaceful co existence.

I know it is bit of a rant, but that is my opinion, and NO I do not work for the BNP, am not a racist, a lot of my friends are from various eastern European countries, as well as from African nations.

Education and race integration classes are needed, not the wholesale dumping of races into a country. A good chemist knows that you need to know the exact reaction of a chemical before you add it to others, otherwise you may get either a violent reaction, or nothing at all. Perhaps our politicians need a lesson in human chemistry.

Nytol

Happy 2008 - For what it's worth

Art-her-noon all

Well here we are in 2008, Yeah yeah I know, I post as regularly as Ireland win matches , but it's all good !My last post got a couple more hits due to the heading, so there ya go, bore no relationship to the content.

We here have a thing all the M50, ( locally known as Dublin's largest 24 hour carpark, due to the speed that one can traverse it !) . It was built, for the lack of a better word, to relieve the traffic crossing our busy city centre, but so far, the foresight leaves a lot to be desired. And now they are "fixing" the problem, hurrah! No, wait, WTF !!! They have now built ,at the Ballymount / Red Cow ( now renamed Mad Cow) exits a brand new maze, complete with crazy signage, little or no lighting, and not a worker to be seen for days !

An example : The exit and lane signage is located AT the junction, sliproad it pertains to, or at the point where you would need the computational power of a Cray supercomputer, the eyesight of the Hubble telescope to read them, the reactions of a quad core processor, and a car with superglue for tyres , thought induced steering and supersonic speed, as well as the ability to go from 120 kph to 0 in a nanosecond ! OR you could just rely on Deja Vu to let you know what was coming up next. Oh, yes, you also need polarized eyeballs for the searchlights they have dotted on the roads, to provide "light" where none exists, and bring along your x-ray specs, to be able to peer thru the signage that obstructs the oncoming traffic as you attempt to turn across it.

I have a feeling that the design of the M50 was solely based on the scratchings of a madman, and the foresight of a neanderthal. Round of applause for our great NRA. All hail the NRA, ( yes, sounds like the US NRA, but without the guns !) And when it is complete, the traffic will be worse.

A quick question to anyone who reads, and please feel free to comment, all will be published, except the really bad ones, ( you know who you are!).

How many people have heard of Kimberley, Mikado fig rolls, and coconut creams ? ( I would appreciate the overseas comments as well as local.

Well, I'm off to a meeting with my shrink. He says we are getting better, myself and mr. Skit.S. O'Frenik . Hes great fun, but has his moments. Have been away too long, but hopefully back now. So much to discuss so little time.

Irish Rugby World cup campaign ( or is that camp in ?)

What a shambles ! Eddie O'Sullivan didn't know whether he had brought the Irish Ice hockey team for a kick about in France or what ! Absolute shite. He never played the entire squad, as most other teams did. He fecked out Stringer, ?? on that one, and then let them team dig a big hole for themselves and expected them to get out without so much as an escape plan. The game plan had all the clarity of the Da Vinci code, and the wisdom of a 16year old on a provisional , in a Subaru on the M50 at 3 am, up for 72 hours , strung out on speed. Japan and the USA had some glimmers of brilliance, and having to compare our team , ( a favourite at one point !), to them was nothing short of a national embarrassment. Having said that, they have played brilliantly for so long, the downfall was sure to be monumental, and humbling, and perhaps has given those on the team, who previously had cauliflower ears, not from the scrum, but from scraping the enormous heads on the doorposts on the way out of the various dressing rooms and interview halls, a new sense of perspective on their mortality and survivability in the team.
All I can say is that , "things can only get better".

And now to the "other" football team ! WTF!!!! Steve S and Eddie must have shared the same play book from the lost art of "diving on your own sword". That yoke Delaney, if only Spartan law was in force when he was born , you get my drift. How in the name of you know who, could the FAI appoint a characterless, self absorbed, wannabe like that! He has managed to reverse all the good work of the last 15 odd years in the same number of months. We should have got tony Robbins to run the team. He may not know shite about footie, but at least he could have motivated them to try, at least! Again, there is the other problem of the team itself. Sorry did I say team, I meant, individuals, bar one or two. Every match, there were 9 or so players out there, each trying to impress with individual skills, which not a team makes ! And the possible replacements, Brady, O'Leary and the rest. They have some experience, and have a less than monosyllabic vocab. We have a talented team, with a lot of young players that can , and have tried, to make an impression, but they must be lead by a charismatic leader. someone that has been out there, knows how to mould a team, see the best positions for each one, and is not afraid to change the formula to suit the new way that football is played. No more defend like hell, and score on a odd break that goes our way.

Well, that's as much as I can vent in one sitting. Have to get back and attend the dishes.

Hopefully will not leave it so long next time, and look forward to spewing more crap that no one cares about.

( and I wish all the best to the new manager of the ROI team in footie, and that Eddie gets back on track !)

Irish classic car show pics

I'll stick them in flickr

survey, or scurvy , ARRRR !

as usual, late and nothing to say, except that the car show in dublin went sooooooooo well. So busy in work , haven't posted since 5th feb, must be a blogging record. ( but I doubt that!), Well we are well into the "Irish" summer now, complete with blustery showers, ( weatherman speak for a gale and a bucket of rain, all the time)Irish weather forecasters have a hard job , being the first to receive Europe's weather fro the Atlantic, but the usual weather forecast goes something like this :

" There will be some sunny spells, with the the odd shower or heavier outbreak of rain, sleet hail or snow, persistent at times. Winds will be light to moderate, possibly gusting to gale force in places. Temperatures will range from 0 to + 20 degrees but cooler at the coast, where fog may persist for a time, with some mist patches"

You have got to love that, covers the spectrum. Can't go wrong there. Thank the stars for see weed and it's meteorlogical powers. ( That and a high window to look out of !)

You probably wonder why this blog is mostly devoid of pictures. They say a pictures speaks a thousand words, but a bad picture can just a well wish you had kept your finger off the upload button. Most of my pictures are of the "messing with the exposure" type. You know the type , street lights like starbursts and that sort of thing, nothing that would interest the "porn trawlers".

I'd like to plug a good friend of mine's website . He's a major Liverpool fan, and me being of the ranks of the Man U supporters, I may seem a bit of a traitor, but no, his site is humorous and a good read. The link is http://www.kopblog.com . Drop over and have a read. Liverpool fans take note. Sorry you lost on Wednesday night, didn't deserve to. Anyway, cheered myself up by watching Ireland .v. Ecuador 1-1 a result and a lot of young new talent to be seen on the night. Perhaps the saving of Snr. S.S..

Have a look at this link if you are into classic cars. Don't forget that the Classic and Vintage Car show is on this year in Terenure college, Dublin. As usual it's for a couple of very good charities as it is every year, and never disappoints, and is a very cheap day out of the family, both young and old. Details on the website http://www.irishjagclub.ie . Check out the events for more details
. It's on July 8th from 12 to 6 . Only one day, but I never missed it since it started. Never disappoints. and there's plenty of onsite car parking, so better again. I have a couple of pictures on flickr. I have included them here, and yes, that is good weather in Ireland! My previous post has more of the cars, click on the flickr button. I'll try to add more from this years show , when I get there !!!

Well, that's it, try to catch more ZZZZ's and post later

SKY ROI Goes pop for a while

at approx. 17:00 hours, 5th February 2007, Sky TV in the ROI ( dunno about the reast of the world), was popping on and off every 5 minutes. Tried ringing the "helpdesk" but constantly engaged.

Had a suspicious feeling that all was not well with the system!!!. So waited and waited, and eventually got thru at about 21:00 to the "suprising" reply that there was a software "glitch", but that things were on the mend. So for anyone oout there that was wondering what had happened, there you go. More than can be said for the SKY website itself, http://www.sky.co.uk . Have requested that they put up a current notice section to alert people and to cut down on the frustration of an engaged helpdesk number.

Anyway, I was informed that all is well now, and the system is being fixed. Some nice pictures of classic jags and a famous celeb or two ! Feel free to browse around, there are not may at the time of posting, but you can also check the Irish Jaguar club link, to see what they get up to, and perhaps join. There are outings all year round, and the best thing is you only have to be interested in Jag's to join, ( we don't expect all our new members to have one, but it is a bonus if you do. They have runs all over the country and a couple of long weekends driving to various locations, staying up north with the Area 31 club. Might not be eveeryone's cup of tea, but when you get the smell of classic car leather and real petrol and oil, as well as the chance to get under the hood, and hear these big cats roar, you can kinda get hooked. I, myself, have picked up skills , like rewiring e-type's and ss100's from scratch, as well as being a bit of an expert ( big head!) on all types of braking systems, from cables to rods, to servo assisted, as well as all types of carb rebuilds.

ave a rummage and let me know if you want me to add more, or just shut up ! After years of "were geting there" slogans, they eventually get the kit to "get you there", only to find that the "go-get you there" blokes, all TWO of them, refuse to drive the shiny new Iron Horses, because they ahven't the necessary "on-road" training. Hmm, "Train" and "on road" , methinks a bad thing this. ;-)

Anyway, these two geniuses decide to stop everything , and millions are lost, 35,000 people are stranded, and here we go again. The only sympathetic bone in my body for them is inside my size 10 shoes, which I would gladly donate in a kick up the arse to them for this year's " I dunno what to do with this yoke", also known as " gimme more money or I won't do it". For the love of all things sane, they have , a lever to go faster, a backward and forward lever, a deadman switch and a brake. The difference is a diagnostic console, in native english, ( perhaps they are miffed that is not "as Gaeilge", and a different shaped cab.

Once again the Celtic Tiger has been brought down by a whimpering wolf in sheeps clothing.

Nytol

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://lcomerford.blogspot.com/2006/05/is-it-bird-is-it-plane-well-it-isnt.html' title='is it a bird? Well, seems that our national broadcaster had heeded the licence payers and the Holland chap has not been put on national television. But much to my chagrin, he has made audio via spin1038 in the Eamonn "Dumpy" show, ( or so I heard)! Hope it didn't happen, but hey, that's life.

And in the news today, "Ryanair flight to Dublin, diverted to Prestwick, under RAF escort, due to "bomb threat via magazine with note in it". Hmm, Passenger list might provide a clue. 71 Schoolchildren on board, ( perhaps very bored !) . One "clever joker!", decides to , either as a dare, or because he/she thinks they are "untouchable", decide to send a note to the pilot, for a bit of a laugh !!. Ho, Effing, Ho! If it turns out to be this, I would like to be the first to "congratulate" the parents on a job, well done, in the "raising" of this miscreant. Apart from the waste of money, and the dis-jounting of the noses of the passengers, which is at the bottom of the list, how about the absolute terror for all concerned, except the collaborators on this little "prank"! Every possible part of the law should be wielded against them, and perhaps, as a last resort, a free trip to some of the victim's families of 9/11 , and a little reality.

Of course, I could be wrong, and it could be that someone found this note, stuck in a magazine that they had picked up from a previous flight, and being the concerned type, reported it to the stewards, who reported it to the pilot, and therefore it should be investigated further, but since Ryanair have initiated online booking, and first come first served seating, the person will never be found, then I stand corrected, and apologies in advance, without prejudice.

We should go back to an allocated seat per person. That way these things could be traced. Also, covert cameras should be installed on planes, like buses, and recorded in a "blackbox". This should be downloaded after each flight and stored, as the carriers expense. It would help in defining patterns of flyers, and as well as that could be used as evidence in "air-rage" incidents, as well as possible terrorist attacks.

That's it. ( do I go on or what!)

Here's another QI ( Quite Interesting). The swan and Carp fish populations seem to be dwindling in Irish parks. This is only happening in the last year of so. Hmm! Is the swan a delicacy in "some" countries (bigger than a turkey and easier to catch than a duck), and the carp are an easy fish to catch in a net in a park pond than on a canal.

H5N1 do your stuff, that'll stop them, yeuch!

That's it. Happy Easter ( or holiday) to all.

Meanwhile, back on Earth

"please release me, let me go... Translate that into any other country ! That's a lot, considering the size of this island. Also there has been an upsurge of TB and MRSA in the country. I am not a person to pick on others, nor am I one to point a finger, or to support a "police state", but a couple of things spring to mind.

fraud : check this link : http://breakingnews.iol.ie/news/story.asp?j=174631924&p=y7463z63x

Medical screening : Anyone coming into the country from a country, that is known to have a possible pandemic, should be offered a medical screening, or at least, the ability to prove that they do not carry the possibility of one. A conparsion is the Foot and mouth issue not so long ago. Look what that did to the animal population, translate that into the human form, and presto, a lot of sick people, and since the few idiots that never bothered to finish their course of treatment for their ailment, because they "felt better", are both destroying the use of that antibiotic / antiviral, but are also generating a new resistant strain, what kind of idiots are they?

Don't get me wrong here. I have friends in the community that are from other countries, and they are healping a hell of a lot more than my soo called Irish counterparts, but a little caution on the disease front, doesn't hurt. I have asthmatic kids, the last thing they need is a dose of TB, untreatable with medication. It's a dad looking after his kids, that's all! i want my babies, with this problem, to have a life ! All I ask is that they get a chance and an honest answer .

Sorry to all that may be offended, but give them a chance, and tell the truth, you would do that for your kids

I'mm Baaaccckkkkk !

I'mm Baaaccckkkkk !
  Greets all.

Well bathroom nearly finished, ( me off). Perhaps if B-b-b-Bertie was to , emm, take a trip to Baghdad with a sample of our shamroge mhaith ina phoca, for the pinning on the gansaí's of gach buachaill ag fighting as both sides, perhaps one of two things would happen.

1) everyone would get into the Iroish spirit and lay down their arms , be pals, and all would be right with the world, or

they would shoot him , and I mean both sides would have a crack.

Either way, it's a win-win situation, for the Irish nation anyway.

Meanwhile, back on the Emerald Isle....

I am listening to the news, and you probably heard about that poor girl, shot dead at a party by a bunch of animals because they weren't let in. And all of a sudden, our Minister for "Justice", seeing an opportunity for a party push, leaps from his party bench, and condemns gun violence, demands a gun amnesty and that all the illegal guns should be handed over, right now, you bold and naughty people. Hello, lately, all the drug barons, get a free Uzi , with every K of drugs. Stupid ass. Arm the Gardaí , give them the power, at least, to be on a par with this scum.

Cocaine is the "new" scourge here ! What "analyst" came up with that ! The real scourge here is the lack of parental control over kids. Mammy and daddy bugger off to the pub, or couldn't be arsed to know where there kids are : " Sure there over in x/y/z's house / gaff ." They are like shite ! There are hanging around the nearest green area, either drinking their brains out, smoking whatever is applicable / cool, or after either of the above, "doing the business" in broad daylight, with the local harlot, gratis, ( who is also of unknown whereabouts). Later as the child / adolescent becomes uncontrollable, poor mater "cannot" understand, where she went "wrong". "are our schools not teaching them these things". Well, yes, but it is up to the parents to reinforce it. Education is a right not a crèche / babysitting service.

I have a pain in my arse listening to the "no one understands children " brigade. What happened in the 50's. You stepped out of line, and you knew what happened next! You got an arse kicking from DAD ! This world is running out of social cotton wool. They say that lawyers get paid for nothing, and a 1,000 lawyers at bottom of the sea is a good start! Add the Child physiologists. A.D.D and A.D.H.D, what the. ?Was this undiagnosed until nineties? What a crock! It's that these kids are given no attention from the mommy that is out working, daddy is out working, little Johnny / Josephine stuck in a child minders. kid-mom-dad+creche - parental guidance = PROBLEM ! It's that simple, the 50's mom showered ATTENTION, the noughtie's mom / dad hasn't the time…There's the attention deficit!

Anyway, time to wash the brain, like to hear a comment, educated please. Feel free!

By the way, I have kids and am a dad that KNOWS where his kids are. All they need are love and attention, and that equals TLC!

Do you know where your kids are now?

Bluetooth, more like pain in the A%$e

Greeting fellow chumps

Anyone out there ever tried to install a Belkin Bluetooth adapter under Win XP home SP2 ? Then you know about the hassles. Well I have found a workaround.

1. ren all BH*.inf files in windows\inf to .bak

2. Un-install then reinstall the latest version of Belkin Bluetooth drivers from www.belkin.com

3. When you are asked to plug in your bluetooth devices, cancel the windows, install new hardware window. Re-start the machine.

4. Unplug and re-plug the Bluetooth device, say no to the update from internet, select advanced, install from specific location. Select the location that you unzipped the original files for the install,

5. Little red bluetooth icon goes blue, hurrah !

I spent over 2 hours trawling the internet for a solution, and no luck, but so far this works. Also, it sorts out the licence.dat file issue, for which neither Widcomm or Belkin have a answer, or solution on their respective webites.

All trademarks, etc are recognised.

PLEASE NOTE : AS WITH ALL "WORKAROUNDS", PERFORM IT AT YOUR OWN RISK. Before getting married, they worship the ground that you tread. After, you worship the ground that they give up ! Better still, there is the 6 month “cooling off” period, after the event. You get breakfast in bed, the best dinner since you mom, and no “cut the grass” or “ feed the dog”, brilltastic !. Then, slowly, it happens. The dinner begins to change, from the gourmet presentation, to “ spaghetti ok?”. The bedroom antics, are now confined to, either the “ I’ve got a headache” or “ I’m fertile, do it now”. We guys are already under pressure enough. We cannot just magic up, Mr. Woodpecker, no! It’s governed by soo much more, but perform we must. Otherwise, hell hath not fury. Men are from Mars, women from Venus. Never a truer statement. Mars, possibility of being another Earth, a bit colder, (people could survive there), and has had a lot more probes sent. Venus, hot enough to melt lead, hostile, and,due to the atmosphere, cannot see the surface, but looks fierce pretty in the evening. Hmm, sound familiar.

So Mars, you can possibly get on with, and you can see under the outside, Venus, disguised as pretty, but under the surface, will scare you.

As Sean Connery said in the Untouchables, “So endeth the lesson!” and in The league of Extraordinary Gentlemen, “Eyes open boy !”

And the beat goes on

And the beat goes on…

Well, week 2 in the New Year, and not much has changed. Still the same, you know what, but a different year! What a difference a day makes,!

Still searching for that nirvana that is my next port of employment. Seems a shame to waste this idea-ridden brain of mine, (Belly laugh from all reading, that poor brain cell must be worn out doing the “wall of death” inside the empty space!)

I se that the American “entertainment” machine has produced a “drama” based around the war in Iraq , how timely!. It has only reached our little shores here, due the end of the month. Wag the dog and all that. Haven’t we had enough of this, both from an exploitation point of view and also the constant suicide bombings that now make up the, “ in other news ..” segments. My view is, if they have their government, let them carry on. Pull out the troops slowly, replace them with UN Peacekeepers, keep a presence off the coast, lock that other fella up, and throw away the key, as the focus is now off him, and on the people. Every revolution curses the one that started it, opps sorry, except for one! ;-)

Still we have bird flu to fall back on. Turkey, (isn’t that apt, Turkey – Bird Flu, not funny, but not here to amuse !) . “SO FAR”, has not mutated to the human form, but 15 people have died. The two kids initially at the centre of this got it by playing with a “dead!” chicken. Come on, what happened to puppies and kittens, or even jump rope! What were they doing, playing catch, or Animal Autopsy, (coming soon to an educational channel in your area, but not Turkey, or surrounding countries in the migration paths of birds!)

Jeepers, (Scooby Doo quote there), what’s next, Cow Plague or Pig Pox, or a good dose of the uncommon Fish Flu).

Well, I have exhausted you all, so for now, this is Mise McBuachaill, somewhere in Iceland, wishing you good Night and God’s speed.

Byeeeeeeee

Xmas over and New Year , without prejudice

Xmas over and New Year to boot, without prejudice

Thank goodness that’s over with. Now with “little Christmas day” have to get all the decorations down, store them away and carry on.

What a life! Also, need a job. Hard to believe that I am unemployable, with 21 years in IT under my belt, every aspect. Seems that too much experience is sometimes worse than too little. Sometimes, who you know is better than what you know, or perhaps, what someone (wink wink, MS, Cisco certification) can give you the bit of paper that tells someone else that you are “qualified”, (a.k.a. you have a good memory, rather then an analytical mind). Give me a break. I have written entire systems without the “paperwork” to back it up, rather the businesses that have thrived from it. I could diagnose a problem on any system, faster, and for less than the “qualified” consultants. Have a look at the PPARS disaster in the Irish Health sector! What a waste. And the Luas, rail track so tight on the turns, that it causes “brown” noise to be generated, because of a lack of a sound deadening polymer being used. Now there’s an engineering lie, if a turn is right, no noise. If it is too tight, the wheels of a tram will “rub” off the rails, causing the noise, but the polymer will deaden the noise. The Dublin Luas system was not built correctly, and don’t have a degree in engineering, just common sense. The turns at the RED COW and at Hueston are far too tight, causing the tram wheel edges to rub against the rails causing the noise. The Polymers will only reduce the noise, not the wear or the possibility of the tram from derailing.

Next stop…. The Dublin Port Tunnel. That is a self-sustaining joke. Firstly, the guys that tried to install the lights at the entrance, found the concrete so thin, their drill bits “shot thru”. Secondly, water leaks in. Thirdly, some idiot suggested that since the Irish dug most of the tunnels in England for the rail system in the 19th century, surely we don’t need foreign contractors to do it now. And finally, the system cannot handle the “new” super trucks.

One and two, scrimp and save. Number three, talk to the Heathrow people when they sacked their contractors. “ we can do that”, and what happened next, half the terminal fell into a hole !! Also, most of the tunnels built by the Irish in England, were thru solid rock. Finally, the kit that the Irish “contractors “ bought was probably “second hand”, used “before” super trucks were even used., hence the reason it doesn’t accommodate them. Cheap and cheerful. Wakey, wakey, Mr. Building Slab, ( You know who you are , Initial T.Building Slab).

Ireland’s answers to transport problems is – Looks good, let’s do it, opps, more money, keep spending, blame someone else, get the foreigners in, get them to fix it, pay then either a) bugger all or b) any sum that will save the current government or c) bugger those ejits, what do our people know about safe!

Ireland, wake up ! Your government haven’t a clue. Your kids are in Asbestos ridden schools, you walk crime laden roads, tourists are mugged, and killed. Lock up everything, because you politicians, in government don’t care, except for their salaries.

Case closed

Happy new year to all for 2006

Happy new year to all 2006

Well another year over and another just beginning.

I wish everyone that visits, and those that don’t that 2006 brings them everything 2005 promised, but failed to keep.

Good luck all

Louis

Santa is coming Goose is getting obese

Santa is coming, Goose is getting obese
Santa is coming, (no not that way ya bratz !)

Well, it’s that time of the year, Santa is on his way. But hold on, spare a thought for those people that assist you in the background, in store security, shop assistants, parking attendants, and the police, the firemen, the ambulance crews and the doctors, nurses, surgeons, and all those that work over the xmas period that, ok, get paid for it, but still give more than they get.

All I am saying is that we should appreciate them more, not ring then, whinge at them, and then expect them to turn up to save the day, without question.

Try saying hello and thank you to that security guard in the supermarket, or wave at a policeman/woman.

Speaking of people that use the emergency services, how about in the UK , the person that rang 999 ( emergency services), to report that they couldn’t find the remote control for the TV!

There is a lot more of that one the WEB, believe me, there are people out there, either too stooped, or to lazy, to bother thinking, “ohh, should I do that?, Nah! That’s what the paid services are for, sure I do my bit,( pay taxes / collect unemployment), so make my day ! Meanwhile, there are those people that drive themselves miles to a hospital, with a broken limb / in severe pain safely, rather then call an ambulance that could be used for someone else, more needy.

Piss me off, ohh yeah, that sort of shit does!

Have a look at this link from Manchester, England, Broken fingernail, break her neck !!!
Search Google for 999 call broken fingernail, you get the picture !!!

I rest my over spoken case.

Happy Holiday

WOW IT’S THE WINTER SOLSTICE!!!!

WOW IT’S THE WINTER SOLSTICE!!!!

Well at least the days get longer from now one, and only a couple of days before Xmas. Kids are so excited. It’s a great time of year. Furby, Nintendo DS and God knows how many Bratz dolls are resident in the attic, (Santa comes in there! LOL)

I love cooking but my mother in law doesn’t want any more of my excellent creations, things like a medley of veg in a four cheese sauce, pan fried sprouts with Parma ham and caraway. See the Infrared image of the sun, lucky there was a star gate near by, LOL

(image placeholder)

The end if the world is nigh!!!! Well, not really, but I though it was cool, sorry.

Human Resource Departments, ( sorry starting to bitch now, noose around my own neck)

Ouch, nasty subject.

Contrary to belief, HR departments are controlled by your supervisor, not the other way round. They are the company “executioners”, in a manner of words. If your boss is unable, incapable, or just too plain scared to deal with you, or hasn’t the “person” skills to “help” you, they need the “H-Team”. Den-De-Di-Den, Den-Den Den!, etc.

I always laugh when the axe wielders are brought in to “read you your rights”, and at the same time, extending the hand of help. It’s a little like, “ you have a problem (overworked, not appreciated, misunderstood), that’s ok, here read the company standpoint, we are here to help”, (subtext, “ this gives us time to “investigate”, your background, and the best possible way to get rid of you,if you are going, then you are going). It really sickens me how hypocritical they are. They are like civil servants, in a job for life. Who sacks the HR people, HR? Hmm. And your redress to a HR decision, the appropriate Labor relations. Takes years and money, and you get a pittance, and a possible apology, but they learn from their “mistakes”, and all you do is educate them in others ways not to get caught removing you.

Like us, all they care about is themselves, and they have a huge advantage, they know HOW to, because they have the rulebook, and all the “how-to” clauses.

Human Resources, Hmm, think about it. We can have mineral resources, a.k.a. we mine it until it is depleted, then we move on. Human resources, doesn’t that sound like slave masters. Humans are not a resource; they are an investment, much like employees. Employee Enablement Department (EED) will probably be their next “reincarnation”, (remember the copyright kiddo’s, you heard it here first). The Employee Enablement department. Doesn’t that sound a lot more like it is on your side, rather than the distant Human Resources? If we could employ Monkeys or other animals, what would it be then, (Monkeys being sentient), The Hominoid Resources Dept???

Here’s a laugh: A colleague of mine was “relieved” of their post, because, they are informed, by an ex-manager, they weren’t “social” enough. Not that their work failed, or they didn’t put in the hours, but that they didn’t “fit in” the “social” mix. Sniffer dogs and helper Reasus monkeys beware!

If you want a job for life, become a H.R. person, It’s like HE-MAN, “I have to POWEEERRRR”, and so can you. (All you need to do is to leave your conscience and morals at the door).

As an aside to this there are times that HR is a good thing. When someone has really been bad, ( stealing, being abusive, sexual harassment, bullying). When these are real issues, then yes, they are helpful, but a lot of the time, this sort of thing is not reported by the superior, because the person causing it is a bit of a “character”, they are only having a bit of fun, it’s just a laugh. This is where HR falls down, as I said before. Your boss is either your defense or your prosecution, his/her choice based on your socialibility, and your position on the pecking order.

TIP : SOCIALISE and “FIT IN”, not “DO A GOOD JOB” and “WORK HARD”

Note : IF you are out you are out ! ( Unless, they cannot replace you, then you are in until they get a replacement, then you are out, and they will have a way to get you out, “aces up sleeves”)

Any views or comments please leave them at the comment desk below. Anyone reading this should have one or two. (Can’t wait for the “H.R.” backlash!)

As ever, yours

Me

( Please not these are the opinions of the author and in no way reflect on any current , or previous employment, nor should any be inferred, without prejudice)

Wallpaper dammit

Wallpaper dammit !!

As I said before, wallpapering won’t do itself.

Finished it, but I peeled off, all over the place.

I do hate bad builders

Short but relevant

AHH TIS THE SEASON TO...

Ah Christmas. Season to be jolly, and after that the season to be BROKE, for what seems like an eternity. Bah Humbug!

Enough Xmas bashing. Anyone have an interest in Old Jaguars? I wouldn’t use the word “hooked” on Classics, but once you help rebuild and drive a 1972 E-type V12 6 Litre Automatic, all other cars pale into insignificance. It’s the closest thing to a Saturn 5 rocket , but in a horizontal direction, ( most of the time).

These cars can reach 160 ( bolt well together before trying), and in the automatic, the word “kick-down” has a whole new meaning. Most motors kick down and off they go, the E-type kinda gives you a second to think twice about the rash action you have initiated. Like a sort of “Are you Sure ?. Cuz if you are not, then get your leaden foot off the petrol pedal”. 60-100 mph in about 2 seconds, (hence the reason for headrests for all). And to hold you there, tyres the width of a dual carriageway, and a cost no far off that either, so spin then at your own expense.

You have to , at least once in your life, drive a high performance car. It’s akin to your first parachute jump, or bungee experience, but with a lot more control over the outcome.

As an aside, with all the youth crime today, and kids not having “anything to do”, and their love of all things on four wheels, or two, perhaps it is time that communities / governments stepped in and gave them the opportunity to rebuild their own classic car, and take pride in the completed work.

Right, that’s quite enough of that!!!!

For anyone interested in SETI (the search for E.T. signals from O.S., and not the 3 foot talking prune from m. Speellbergo), spin by Seti and Sparc’s link on the right. Rants and raves aplenty, and some techie stuff guaranteed.

Got to go, the wallpapering won’t do itself.

Nytol

To Blog or not to Blog

To Blog … or not to Blog, What kinda question is that !

I know this is getting out of hand, but I have a lot of crapola to use up.

Anyway, do a bit of car restoration, all Jaguars, from SS100 to Jaguar e-type V12. Three DVD’s for so much, MP3 Players with storage out the wazoo. Then all the kids toys. Baby Amazing, looks real, does all the things real babies do. Are we trying to put our kids off having their own? Maybe not. They can take out the batteries and leave them in a corner when they are bored, much like they will when they have their own, and then they will need counselling or Ritilin or both over time.

Meanwhile, the ad bombardment goes on, and it gets earlier each year. Soon it will be Christmas ads 360 days a year, just in case. Especially the Christmas Hamper people start advertising 26 for the next year.

So the kids get their Nintendo DS, or their Playstation PSP or the XBOX or whatever, and the old “retro” PS2, Gamecube et al, are chucked in the corner , along with baby whats-her-face, never to see the light of day again, perhaps for a jumble sale, for the cycle to repeat .

And the battery companies are minting it. No kid wants to trail his adapter all over the place, he / she wants batteries for everything and right before they run out.

I get back to this later, kettle is boiling, and brekkie is ready.

I bid you all adieu

Day Three - Xmas is coming and The Shopping ohh the Shopping, Valium please

Day Three :

Been up all night , working , sorry worrying,. Heard a couple of odd noises around house. No Not parties more like burglars . Checked the alarm, Scanned the car for possible damage, nothing but a sheet of rain trying to find the only rust spot to penetrate and put an end to my motoring days.

Once I am awake , it awake for the day, with all the inherent problems that creates. 2 Pm Eyes want to close shut, Stomach wants food out of sync, and lots of it. Oh, yeah, and snapping at everything within laudable range.

Still, light up another “Joe” and have a think. What next.

The sun is trying with every atom of its being, to break through the leaden sky, but to no avail. Yet another dull, damp, cold day.

Christmas is here, and it’s time to go “Talk to Santa”, Santa = Bank Talk = plead to = with, and throw in a grovel or two for the extra.

Funds in hand, it’s time to hit the Malls.

(There was a study, yeah another one wasting real research time , that stated the male stress level while shopping with their partner, presuming Clothes , but sometimes the food choices, that another story , is as high as a pilot in a dog fight. And they want to know why we sometimes have a “face” on us as long as a horse, after passing thru the same shop 5 times , looked at the same dress 4 times, and are resigned to the u-huh response. This is responded to with the --- “What’s that supposed to mean, “ or the less subtle “ You don’t really care what I look like”

Then he leaps in with, “No,no if course I care, it’s lovely” “really” she says, “Yeah, colour suits you “, he says, like he has any perception of color, he just wants out. Then she comes back with “ Nah! , not really my style, let’s go back to that shop we saw the other one in” ) One burst cranial blood vessel coming up. And this is repeated ad nauseum. If he’s lucky, only one of these trips is required, and he can steel himself prior to it.

Women Choosing a Meal out

My all time favourite indecisive story

The man prepares by doing the following : Memorising every menu to all restaurants and all cuisines within a 5-7 miles radius of the entertainment centre one is going to. This is vital for step 2

Step 2 : MAN : “ Hey, let’s go out for dinner, what do you fancy ? “
     LADY : “ Sure , but don’t know what I would like , you pick “ ( here it comes )
Man : “ Ehh, The Italian sounds great, good menu, been there before and you loved it “
Lady : “ Nah, gone off that now,…..(pause left for himself to step in)
MAN : “ Ok, Thai, Thai’s a change, more adventurous then Chinese”
Lady : “ THAI, what’s that like, heard it’s very spicy, and I not mad about spicy food”
MAN : ( Now he lists off all the menu for the Thai restaurant, including ingredients, method of preparation, color of tablecloths)
LADY : “ NO, don’t think so” ( By this time, most restaurants are running out of space, and the mandatory 2 hours to change has not been factored in)
MAN : (Man has now exhausted the entire list of local eateries and is left to say“ Well, where do you think ?”
Lady : “ How about some pasta , that Italian was great the last time we were there “

I rest my case.

See you soon

Star Trek in the noughties

Just watching the “news”, and what do I hear William Shatner ( Capt. One minute it’s a very funny cartoon, next it now has added gay undertones !!!

Spongebob tried to date Sandy the squirrel, Patrick is say too thick to be able to work out any other gender but his own, Squidworth, is a loner, unless the Plankton and the crab are you know … well, a pair ! Would whoever out there spends their research time and money on these things, please stop and use that brain for a more suitable role, like finding a cure for Bipolar.

To all Manchester United Fans , The Best is laid to rest today, and may all of footballs followers wish him well. And lets hope that the small minority of “fans” that couldn’t keep their opinions, or sneers, to themselves last week at two matches, try to have some respect for the passing of a true soccer legend.

My profile seems to have vanished, (probably a good thing for the World), . Will get it back soon. No photo though, might be recognised as a Virus.

Live long and prosper

When in Rome...

Well, They say everyone’s first attempt is the worst, and was that bad!

The ranting and ravings of a demented soul. So, what’s with the world today. Let’s see, well, there was … and then there … Is it just me or is all the news either depressing or trivial? There is nothing hopeful out there, no missions to the moon, no major tragedies overcome. For example, the earthquake in Pakistan, all over the news for weeks, while there was good “meat” on the bones of the story. The once the scavengers had had filled up and the meat went off, they were gone, only the odd hyena out picking at the leftovers, for lack of hunting . It’s really is something else when a disaster like that is used to line a broadcaster / newsrooms pockets, and we never hear of them, donating some of the wealth that they make , off the backs of it, back to the poor souls that inadvertently provided to them. A little like a form of slavery, you sacrifice, we make.

Anyway, I’ll come back here later, when others thoughts spring to mind.

TTFN

Isn't life sometimes a pain !

Well, the first posting worth talking about. I'm glad to get a forum to talk to other s about a couple of things. Perhaps like minded individuals, and the normal set of "kranks" that are going to "post" "replies" here.

Ok, let's get on with it.

On these pages will be some waffling of mine, a couple of non-musical raves, and a couple of worldly observations, I hope !

First up, depression.

Yes, it's a very serious subject, and those that never suffered from it, are either lying or causing it, ( now there's a thought for the day !).

The liars are those that "don't suffer from it" it's a "disease" ( I hate that word soo much). Everyone gets a bit down at times, but the people that suffer depression, the real deal, are down a lot more than they are up. Hands up all the depressive folk that do more for others than themselves. Hands up also, those that think that making others happy around them makes them happy by "reflective happiness". ( they are now happy, then so am I). Three words, load of crap!

Making other people happy at your expense is so wrong. Be a little selfish. "ohh, but I can't, it's not me !" Sorry, it is you, get a grip ! You can give everything you got away, and do you think, that it will be returned . NO ! How many of you are out there, thinking that someone is going to come along, see your good deeds, and say " wow!, I have gotta give this person something back !" Not happening! Unless the guilt trip for that person is that you have given them so much that the "token" return is needed for them to feel better in themselves, or they are as bad as you are.

What makes you feel down ? Is is that you have no control over your life ? That you cannot "change" anything about yourself . Of course you can, little changes day by day. Take your full lunch break, have your hour in the gym. Go watch that film no one else wants to see by yourself. Go out, and find other people with the same taste in things, believe me they are out there, you are not that unique !

Take a piece of A4 paper, ( or Legal, in the US), line down the middle. Title above column one, what I do for others, title of column 2 , what I do for ME.

Guess what, bet Column one is longer then column 2 ? You see that you are doing more for others them for yourself.

Presto Chango. A little for you, a little less for them. Let them find out, and do it for themselves.

Gotta go, knackered, yeah, practice makes near perfect

and on the 1st day he created THIS ???

Blimey !
